The pedestrian killed Tuesday morning when two SUVs collided in a Plano intersection, sending one rolling onto the sidewalk, has been identified.
Police told NBC 5 that the victim in the crash has been identified as 75-year-old Barkat Ali Ismail, of Plano.
According to a family member, Ismail lived about a mile from where the crash happened and was taking his usual walk after morning prayers.
Police said that at about 8 a.m. on Tuesday, a gray Kia Niro traveling West on Legacy Drive, making a left onto Parkwood Boulevard South, struck the back driver’s side of a gray Ford Bronco headed East on Legacy Drive.
The impact caused the Bronco to roll over and hit two pedestrians on the sidewalk near the intersection.
Ismail and another person were on the sidewalk when they were hit.
Plano Fire-Rescue took both victims to the hospital, where Ismail later died. The other injured pedestrian, who has not been publicly identified, did not have injuries that were believed to be life-threatening.
Neither of the drivers was hurt in the crash.
Plano Police have not said whether any charges will be filed in connection with the man’s death.
Authorities said the crash remained under investigation.
Ismail’s family said he recently moved to the area after retiring and leaves behind a wife and adult children.
