The Women’s Home, a Houston-based nonprofit, has announced an open call for Faces of Change: Her Story is Houston’s Story, a mural project honoring extraordinary women who have helped define the cultural, civic, and social fabric of the city.

Greater Houston area artists are eligible to apply to create a 61-foot-by-20-foot mural celebrating five women selected through a public nomination process. The honorees will represent a range of generations and fields, including civic leadership, community building, education, healthcare, philanthropy, and the arts.

According to a press release, the mural will “reflect the strength, resilience, diversity, and enduring legacy of Houston’s women, offering a compelling narrative that invites reflection, pride, and deeper community connection.”

The Faces of Change: Her Story is Houston’s Story mural will be located at 811 Westheimer Rd. in the Montrose neighborhood of Houston.

The deadline for artist applications and nominations for the women to be depicted in the mural is January 2, 2026. The selected artist will be announced January 9. Required materials for the application are an artist statement, resume/CV, portfolio of previous work, concept approach, preliminary concept sketches or direction, and proposed materials and budget. The project start date is April 2026, and the mural must be complete within 4 to 6 weeks.
