They are no stranger to trying out unique flavors like the Churro Ice Cream Frappe, the Dubai Chocolate Oat Milk Matcha, and the Cadillac Tea. Yellow City Grind creates new and exciting flavors, focusing on the area they are in, so Lubbock will probably experience a Red Raider Drink or a Buddy Holly twist, maybe even a Peggy Sue.

Lubbock has a lot of the traffic features of a larger town, like interchanges, but most people can’t even get a grip on a four-way stop or how to merge.

Random Packs Of CowboysI have no problem with cowboys or people that work the land, but the person (and friends and family) you see going out in cowboy hats have no real reason for wearing one. It’s more like, “does that cowboy hat keep the glare out of the Excel sheet you’re working on, Bubba?”.

Lubbock has a very weird sign ordinance restricting the size and height of signs and billboards. It gives the city a surface-level “clean and organized look”. I really does feel weird until you realize what’s going on.

Take A Tour: Some Of Lubbock’s Very Best Eats & Treats For 2025From bougie to on-a-budget, take a tour of some of Lubbock’s best food options for 2025. Gallery Credit: Renee Raven Renee RavenBubba’s 33 (6210 Slide Rd)Is this not the most magnificent Monte Cristo you’ve ever seen? Bubba’s 33 always delivers consistently impressive favorites like sandwiches, pizzas, burgers, and my favorite salad in town- the Strawberry Quinoa. Don’t sleep on the margaritas- the swirls are to die for.
Renee RavenItalian Garden (1215 Avenue J)Italian Garden is located in Downtown Lubbock, inside the historic Green Building at . Perfect pasta on every level, whether your feeling adventurous or nostalgic. Pictured is (top) gluten-free penne with alfredo sauce, broccoli, and grilled chicken, alongside (below) spicy Crab and Shrimp ravioli. Not pictured are the best rolls in town, complimentary with your meal. Italian Garden is BYOB with a modest cork fee.
Renee RavenChicken Salad Chick (5015 Milwaukee Ave Suite 300)I’ll be honest, when I heard we were getting a chicken salad restaurant, I was initially unimpressed- until I tasted it. It is really, really great chicken salad. They also have a much more extensive menu than you would think- with soups, sides, desserts and more. I like to pick my salad up and serve it with my own crudites and a fresh loaf of bread from Market Street (as pictured).
Renee RavenClaraboya (505 Avenue Q)Pictured is my plate from one of their very upscale (but affordable) holiday brunches. Yeah, that’s salmon, shrimp, AND lobster on one plate. Claraboya always offers elevated yet accessible eats that are thoughtfully and expertly prepared by the famous (and so friendly) Chef Tony. It’s phenomenal if you are looking to impress a date, a business associate or if you have something to celebrate (I bet you do!)
Renee RavenAll About Cha ( 2910 W Loop 289 Acc Rd Suite 54)All About Cha is somehow both roomy and cozy, chic and intimate. The perfect place to have a nice conversation with friends, or to get some studying done. Located in The West End Shopping Center. Pictured are two varieties of their Bento boxes, for those of us who like a lot of variety. They carry both Asian and American cafe favorites and a massive selection of decadent desserts.
Renee RavenAll About Cha And here is All About Cha’s beautifully presented drinks, including a traditional cafe latte and their signature Matcha Green Freddo.
Renee Raven50th Street Caboose (5027 50th St)Our favorite restaurant growing up in Lubbock should still be a favorite- the food is as high quality and delicious as ever. Pictured is an incredibly fresh, healthy and delicious salad- but go ahead and get the fajitas if you have a craving. Paired with an extensive bar and of course, the games, 50th Street Caboose makes a perfect date night- with or without the kids. Mirch Masala (2815 34th St)Mirch Masala is a specialty Indian grocery store (with a wide variety of exciting products) and a bistro-style restaurant inside. There are plenty of options to try. Not sure about something? The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. The seating area is small but pleasant and full of natural light. Everything is served in sturdy to-go containers because you will likely have leftovers anyway- the portions are rich and generous. Bucket Of Love (6012 82nd St Suite E)Owned by the lovely Lee family, Bucket of Love is a unique concept in Lubbock- delicious fried chicken (bone-in, tenders or wings) paired with all you can eat sides. Served family style, this IS the perfect place to gather with people you love. Try the fried green tomatoes- they are the best I’ve ever had. And have the biscuits with the honey, honey!
Renee RavenDoc’s Cafeteria (4919 34th St)Also owned by the Lee’s, Doc’s Cafeteria is a one-trip buffet that is reminiscent of Furr’s (but I’d say much better flavor and value-wise). Choose up to five of their amazing sides to accompany your protein. There’s lots of choices, but I suggest the meatloaf. Don’t forget your dessert! I picked banana pudding.
Renee RavenStacked Breakfast & Lunch (6015 82nd St STE 5)Stacked has rapidly become a favorite of mine for a beautiful breakfast. There are tons of delicious options, from the traditional pancake/eggs/bacon sort to signature and unique dishes like the avocado benedict (shown, alongside a fluffy, lovely omelet). They also have a nice variety of cocktails, like the pineapple upside-down mimosa (also shown).
Renee RavenCaprock Cafe (Two Lubbock Locations)Caprock Cafe is “where Texas plays,” and if you are bored to tears with your high-protein diet, head over right now to try their protein bowls (pictured). Absolutely delicious and satisfying, and I’m not even on that diet! They’ve also got those ice-cold schooners of frosty beer too. Yum!
Renee RavenDirk’s Chicken (1636 13th St)Dirk’s Chicken near Texas Tech is a comfort food miracle. Pictured is the combo plate with both chicken and steak fingers (no need to choose if you don’t want to!) with a selection of their delicious dipping sauces, paired with generously portioned sides. In this photo is their maque chox (basically creamed corn, but much more flavorful) and mashed potatoes with bacon jalapeno gravy.
Renee RavenDirk’s ChickenDon’t want fried? No problem. These shrimp and grits with a side of gumbo were rich and delicious without any breading.
Renee RavenBeijing House (3605 50th St)Bejing House (3605 50th St) is my special hidden gem. The Mongolian Barbeque is always perfectly cooked, and since you choose what goes in it, it’s perfect for your palate, too. Hot, fresh, and very affordable- what’s not to love? I have to warn you, though, the hot mustard is HOT and I always overdo it on my eggrolls.
Renee RavenMamarita’s (6602 Slide Rd # 1)Not to speak ill of the “departed,” but it always confounded me that anyone would eat at On The Border when Mamarita’s was right across the street. Happily, our Lubbock original is the one that stood the test of time. The food is fantastic and very affordable, and I’m obsessed with the salsa bar. They have a really lovely patio, too.
Renee RavenKung Fu China Express (5102 60th St M)Would you like several meals’ worth of food for one low price? Head over to Kung Fu, where they’ll let you try their entrees before you commit. You’ll even get a little workout carrying your enormous container of food, so let’s say the calories don’t count. Freshly prepared and perfect when you’re craving Chinese.
Renee RavenTaco Casa (two locations in Lubbock)Bring a friend to help you conquer the super nachos (we added black olives). They are perfect “guilty pleasure” food and Taco Casa has some of the best hot sauce in the game. Seriously affordable and consistently yummy- that’s Taco Casa.
