EL PASO, Tx., December 5, 2025: In an update to a story we brought to you on Friday, the Veronica Escobar Campaign succeeded in forcing her only opponent in the March primary off the ballot in a hearing at the El Paso County Democratic Party headquarters yesterday afternoon.

As we reported on Friday, December 11, the Escobar campaign challenged around 100 of the 558 signatures Arturo Andujo submitted to be on the primary ballot against Escobar. In her challenge, Escobar argued that the signatures were not valid because they either had incomplete voter information or were not registered voters in her congressional district.

Andujo was required to submit 500 signatures of voters registered in congressional District 16.

Andujo attended yesterday’s meeting in person, and Veronica Escobar sent a campaign representative to argue their case for removing Andujo.

El Paso Herald Post spoke to Andujo via telephone yesterday shortly after the meeting with Democratic Party officials and the chair, Michael Apodaca. According to Andujo, the meeting was “cordial.” Andujo added that the final count of valid signatures he submitted was 458, 42 short of the required 500 signatures.

Because of the count, Andujo has been removed from the ballot for the upcoming primary, leaving Escobar unchallenged in March 2026. In the November ballot, Escobar will face the winner of the six-way race in the Republican primary.

Andujo told us that he is scheduling a meeting with Veronica Escobar to happen before the holidays to discuss common issues, after the Escobar Campaign extended an invitation to him during yesterday’s meeting.

The March primary is scheduled for March 3, 2026, with the election to follow in November.
