EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The Nutcracker! Magical Christmas Ballet is set to enchant audiences at The Plaza Theatre in El Paso next week at the Plaza Theatre.
This year’s production, part of the 33rd annual North American tour, promises a unique blend of classical ballet and avant-garde circus techniques.
Ukrainian choreographer Viktor Davydiuk leads the innovative staging, which includes the “Doves of Peace” adagio and the introduction of the Herald, a Cyr Wheel artist. The performance features 10-foot-tall animal puppets by South African artist Roger Titley and a new character, Sweets the Dog, created by Barry Gordemer.
Principal dancers from Ukraine’s opera houses, including Karyna Shatkovskaya, Elena Pechenyuk, and Ren Morioka, will reprise the role of Clara.
Executive Producer Dan Talmi said, “With Viktor Davydiuk’s visionary choreography as our foundation, we’re integrating breathtaking acrobatic artistry and expanding on exciting family-friendly elements.”
Shows will be held Dec. 23 and 24.
Dec. 23: Showing at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Dec. 24 at noon.
