LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Lubbock Independent School District said one student was arrested earlier today after threatening another student at Monterey High School.
According to LISD, the student was not on campus at the time he made the threat, but officials at the school gave his description to LISD Police.
After some time, an LISD officer spotted the student walking into the front of the school. That’s when the officer chased the student out of the entrance and apprehended him.
After determining he was the student who made the threat, officers searched him and found a weapon and arrested him. LISD said there is no ongoing threat to students, staff or on campus.
However, Principal Justin Newman said enhanced police presence will be on campus for extra precaution.
“Lubbock ISD has a zero-tolerance policy for any threats made to our campuses. Please remind your students that the district takes all threats seriously and inform them of the consequences a person can face when making threats against our students, staff or schools.”
Principal Newman said he is available to answer any questions anyone might have. To reach Newman, call 806-219-1900.
