Police say alcohol played a role after the man jumped into the water while fishing with coworkers early Tuesday morning.

Port Aransas police are investigating a drowning involving a San Antonio man in his 50s.

The Port Aransas Police Department says the man was fishing with coworkers around 3 a.m. Tuesday, on a pier connected to a nearby condominium, when he jumped into the water but never made it back.

Police say they recovered the man’s body around 9 a.m., 100 yards away from where he jumped.

Investigators say alcohol was a contributing factor in the drowning.

Next of kin have been notified, but officials are not releasing the man’s name at this time.

Police did not release other details.Â
