LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock grand jury has indicted a 51-year-old man who was arrested after shooting at an off-duty officer and his family.
Sylas Smart is facing three counts of aggravated assault against a public servant and six counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The attack occurred at a home near 69th St. and Genoa Ave. on Nov. 14. Smart jumped out from behind a tree and began shooting at an off-duty officer and his family, according to police.
Lubbock Police said Smart also began shooting at responding officers before running away. Detectives reported Smart then broke into a home a block over and kept running until officers caught up with him and he surrendered.
No one was injured in the incident.
