Davis, who has led the Fort Worth Fire Department since 2018, was originally placed on leave on Sept. 23 due to a “personal matter.”
FORT WORTH, Texas — Fort Worth’s top firefighter has resigned, city officials confirmed.
The City of Fort Worth announced Friday that Fire Chief Jim Davis, who has led the Fort Worth Fire Department since Oct. 16, 2018, will resign effective Oct. 31.
Davis had been on paid administrative leave since September. The reason behind the leave was cited as a “personal matter,” and officials said at the time they could not share any further details. In the release announcing Davis’ resignation, officials did not elaborate on the motive behind the departure.
“I received word today that Chief Davis has tendered his resignation as fire chief and the City has accepted his resignation,” Mayor Mattie Parker said. “We appreciate Chief Davis’ years of dedicated service to the City and wish him well in his future endeavors.”
According to Mayor Parker, Assistant Chief Raymond Hill, a 31-year veteran at the Fort Worth Fire Department, will continue to serve as interim chief as the City searches for a permanent replacement.
In his seven years at the helm of FWFD, Davis expanded fire station capacity in Fort Worth and oversaw the transition of more than 600 MedStar employees into the department, according to the city’s release.
