For the last two weeks, Iris and I have been shining a light on the people who make El Paso what it is, because our community deserves to be celebrated loudly and sincerely. This week, that spotlight is on local musicians, and today’s feature was nothing short of special.

A Lounge Voice Built for the Spotlight

Charlie Aldaz is the kind of performer that immediately shifts the energy in a room. As the lead singer of Charlie’s Blue Ties, he delivers smooth, lounge-style vocals that call back to legends like Frank Sinatra and Michael Bublé, while still feeling grounded and personal. Over the last year, Charlie has become a familiar and welcome presence at lounges and speakeasies across El Paso, including his residency at 1922 Bar, where his voice feels right at home.

A Journey Rooted in Training and Resilience

Charlie’s musical foundation runs deep. Raised in Socorro, Texas, he began performing in mariachi during middle and high school before earning a full scholarship to UTEP as a Musical Theatre major. There, he trained extensively in voice and stage performance, appearing in operas like The Magic Flute and La Bohème, as well as major productions such as Sweeney Todd, Cats, and Miss Saigon.

Like many artists, life eventually pulled him away from music. Financial challenges and unforeseen circumstances surrounding his daughter’s health forced Charlie to step back. But about a year and a half ago, he made a powerful return, choosing once again to invest in his artistry and his community.

Since his return, Charlie has done more than just perform. He has become a staple. From Wine Down and Entrecôte to WinterFest, where he also served as MC, Charlie brings professionalism, warmth, and genuine connection to every stage he steps on. He is also working closely with Genuine Reference Studios to record and release original music, giving listeners something they can take home and stream long after the night ends.

Giving Back Through Music and Mentorship

Beyond the stage, Charlie teaches piano and voice at Guitar Center, mentors younger musicians, and remains committed to service. He has performed community concerts at hospitals, sung for the Salvation Army during the holidays, and continues to advocate for keeping talent local and lifting up the El Paso arts community.

This is exactly why Iris & Grizzmas Presents: Carols & Community exists. Charlie Aldaz is proof that resilience, training, heart, and community pride can come together to create something truly meaningful. El Paso is better because he chose to come back, and we are lucky to hear him sing. Go find him and support the band on Instagram HERE!
