Healthy foods and acupuncture aren’t necessarily thought of as intertwined for health, but the connection between the two is paramount for holistic care, two Fort Worth businesswomen said.

That’s why Savor Culinary Services and Center for the Healing Arts are partnering to better serve clients with the healthy meals and holistic care they seek.

“We want to make sure that the same thought process around food is medicine — using whole food, organic, all natural ingredients, with no seed oils — is part of both of our philosophies and that it is also the foundation of care,” said Deb Oxman, founder and owner of Savor Culinary Services.

The partnership, which began in November, is the first of its kind for both businesses. The partnership formed after Oxman connected with the center through another acupuncturist.

Although the connection between healthy eating and acupuncture is relatively unknown, the relationship between the two is vital, said Jessica Correa, owner and licensed acupuncturist for the Center for the Healing Arts.

Food’s role with inflammation and reviving energy throughout the body, for example, directly correlates with acupuncture’s efficacy, she said.

“We don’t run off of thin air,” Correa said. “We need these nutrients from nutritious foods in order for us to feel good, in order for our body to heal itself.”

Correa and her team now refer clients to Savor Culinary Services, which provides healthy personalized meals and catering throughout North Texas.

The Tarrant County-based culinary service often partners with other local businesses. Oxman said her clients often asked for referrals to nutritionists and doctors to complement their healthy eating plans. Doing so, she said, helped her clients “complete the wellness journey.”

This partnership between Savor Culinary Services and the Center for the Healing Arts is the first that paired healthy eating with a holistic health service, Oxman said.

“They’re not doctors. They’re not nutritionists, but they are holistic providers that had services that we were missing,” Oxman said. “So many of our clients would ask us about acupuncture for disordered eating.”

The partnership allows for those cross referrals, where Savor Culinary Services directs people to the center for acupuncture services while patients of the center gain access to locally prepared meals.

Correa noted demand for meal service recommendations was a consistent ask from her patients.

For the Center for the Healing Arts, success within the partnership will be correlated to patient satisfaction and with meals from Savor Culinary Services. Correa said the center hopes to provide Savor-prepared meals directly to patients one day.

Oxman said the relationship will be a success if patients are getting better as a result of the partnership.
