EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso is set to host its first mushroom tasting event to support local hunger relief efforts.

The event, organized by El Paso Mushroom Co., will take place at Casa Kin on Dec. 21 from 1-5 p.m.

Attendees will enjoy a seasonal three-course menu crafted by Chef Dario Jones, featuring locally grown gourmet mushrooms.

The menu, showcasing the culinary flavor of mushrooms, will also feature collaborations with Aro Holistics, Cup of Love, and Casa Kin.

The event, which is $55 a person, also serves as a way to support local hunger-relief efforts.

According to El Paso Mushroom Co., it has been donating fresh mushrooms to Food Not Bombs El Paso in an effort to help families in need across the city.

Additionally, portions of the event’s proceeds will benefit the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank.

“We’re excited to launch this tasting experience as a way to connect people with local food and local makers,” founder Maximilian Esparza said. “This is the beginning of our efforts to donate fresh mushrooms to community groups who are feeding families in need. This event helps us give back in a healthy and meaningful way.”

According to Casa Kin, located in the historic Duranguito district, the cafe has quickly become a hub for creativity and community engagement.
