LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Mental health expert Dr. John Delony, who has nearly 1.5 million YouTube subscribers, will bring his live show to his alma mater, Lubbock Christian University, next week.

Delony hosts “The Dr. John Delony Show” and works alongside financial expert Dave Ramsey at Ramsey Solutions.
His career began in Lubbock after he moved from Houston to attend LCU, later continuing his education at Texas Tech University. Delony says every blessing he has is rooted in the Hub City.
“It’s where I met my wife. It’s where I was challenged by my psychology professors that ultimately were the ones who lit the fire under me to start exploring how human beings work,” he said.
After working at both universities and with the police department’s crisis intervention team, Delony moved to Nashville. He joined Ramsey Solutions a few years ago.
“In the summer, I would paint dorm rooms so that me and my wife could pay off our student loans,” Delony said. “But the radio behind us was playing some guy named Dave Ramsey who was hollering about getting out of debt.”
Delony said he never thought he would meet Ramsey, let alone work with him. Now thousands of people tune in to his show where he takes calls and helps people with mental health issues.
“They said, hey, nobody cares about how smart you are,” Delony said. “What people are really drawn to is they’ve never seen a big, loud, tattooed up Texan sit with somebody who just blew up her marriage. They’ve never heard somebody that looks like you say, I was wrong, I messed up, and I need to do something different in my life.”
Delony says his best friends are still the roommates he met back at LCU. He still contacts his professors for advice, and comes back to West Texas to unplug.
“Coming home to Lubbock, it feels like I’m walking back into my old house and it’s just good to see everybody,” he said.
The Dr. John Delony Show will be held Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the McDonald Moody Auditorium at LCU. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased at lcu.edu/event/john-delony.
