Two men were arrested after a 53-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds in the 400 block of North Mesquite Street early Dec. 19, Corpus Christi police said.
At 12:47 a.m., Corpus Christi police officers were dispatched to the downtown area in reference to a shooting. Officers found the victim and began administering first aid until medics with the Corpus Christi Fire Department arrived, the police department said in a news release.
The man was transported to a local hospital in critical but stable condition. The name of the victim has not been revealed as of Dec. 20.
Due to the nature of the call, the Criminal Investigation Division was called to the scene, where investigators determined several people had been involved in a physical altercation and a weapon was produced, the news release said.
Two men were detained on scene in relation to the shooting. Macario Trevino, 39, and Sabastian Espinoza, 23, were taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony, the news release said.
Officers believe this was an isolated incident. The investigation is active and ongoing.
