One person is dead after an officer-involved shooting near Town East Mall in Mesquite on Saturday.

The Dallas Police Department (DPD) was conducting surveillance of a suspect wanted for murder at the 2600 block of Franklin Drive, according to a statement from Mesquite PD.

When the suspect entered a vehicle, DPD initiated a high-risk trafficstop on the East Service Road of Interstate 635, in front of Town East Mall. During the stop, an officer involved shooting occurred, Mesquite PD said.

The suspect was struck by gunfire and is deceased, according to police.

The East Service Road of Interstate 635, between Towne Centre and Town East, will be closed during the investigation.
