AUSTIN (KXAN) — Downtown Austin’s 2nd Street District boasts lots of restaurants and shops, a perfect area for shoppers to grab last-minute holiday gifts. The area is also home to the Moody Theater, where PBS’s Austin City Limits is filmed, and where ACL Live performances take place.

As those last-minute shoppers buzz around the area, they’ll spy some iconic faces, like Kacey Musgraves, Gary Clark Jr., Spoon, Shakey Graves, Asleep at the Wheel, and more.

All those faces are showcased on a new series of banners throughout the neighborhood as part of an installation featuring iconic performers from Austin and Texas who have been on Austin City Limits. They also showcase the work of longtime Austin City Limits photographer Scott Newton.

According to the district, the banners are updated annually and help “connect visitors directly to the cultural legacy housed within the District and underscore the neighborhood’s role as home to ACL Live at the Moody Theater, where the beloved music series Austin City Limits, presented by Austin PBS, is filmed.”

The banners line Second Street, which is fittingly known as “Willie Nelson Boulevard.” Nelson was featured on the pilot episode of Austin City Limits, and his statue sits in front of the Moody Theater, where the show is filmed.

Austin City Limits is the longest-running music program in television history. It celebrated its 50th anniversary last year.
