1 New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church — Re: “Church marks century of faith — Members celebrate history that helped create congregation of family,” Monday news story.

I want to congratulate the congregation of New Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church in South Dallas on its 100th anniversary. This was an uplifting and joyful story.

I, too, have been a member of a church for 55 years that has served God for over 100 years. Pleasant Grove Christian Church in southeast Dallas will celebrate its 150th anniversary on Nov. 16, 2025.

2 Addison Cafe — Oh, the dreadful news! One of my favorite restaurants is closing after 40 years.

Addison Cafe was a place where my family has eaten wonderful French cuisine for many years, and we have celebrated wonderful occasions there, including my mother’s 85th birthday.

I would like to send a big thank-you to Ali and Amir and the staff for many pleasant and tasty meals.

Good luck, Ali.

3 Robert Decherd — Thank goodness The Dallas Morning News has a civic-minded leader like Robert Decherd. He successfully negotiated the sale of the paper to Hearst, shunning the questionable bid by Alden Global Capital, a company known for acquiring newspapers by using excessive debt and cutting staff beyond the bone while decimating local news coverage.

Decherd, whose contributions to Dallas include signature downtown parks and other noble causes, could have made more money by accepting Alden’s bid, but he knew that Hearst would be a better partner to continue The Dallas Morning News’ tradition of journalistic excellence.

We could only wish that other corporate chieftains follow his example.
