After Jerry Jones turned up the pressure on defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus this week, the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator opted to call plays from the coach’s booth for the first time against the Chargers.

Despite his new view of the field, the Cowboys’ defense was still a sieve as the Chargers gashed Dallas throughout the game. With the Cowboys officially eliminated from postseason contention, Dallas fans are just about ready to wrap the season up and move on to the offseason as the Cowboys suffered their third straight loss.

They aren’t just ready to move on from the season, either. The overwhelming consensus among fans and media alike is that Dallas needs to move on from Eberflus at the end of the season.

The Chargers have one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL. Herbert has been sacked more than anyone.
The Cowboys haven’t come close to a sack or a real pressure

3 drives for the Chargers in the first half.

3 TDs.

The Cowboys can’t bring back Matt Eberflus in 2026 under any circumstance.

The only thing predictable about the Cowboys is their unpredictability

— Jane Slater (@SlaterNFL) December 21, 2025

Yeah, I’m 100% over the Eberflus experience.

Jerry Jones, do the right thing.

This defense isn’t bought in on Matt Eberflus.

I’m willing to bet there’s not a single guy that would say that he “inspires” better play out of them or feels like they are better for being in his system.

Two Charger possessions, two touchdowns. Moving Matt Eberflus farther from the action has not brought him any closer to an answer.

Not only has Dallas failed to make playoffs in back-to-back seasons, they’ve been excluded 10 times in last 16 years.

While Cowboys have 2 first round picks, they have none in Day 2. That’s not nearly enough capital to address defensive shortcomings.

Oh, and Merry Christmas.

Look I know we as Cowboys fans are mad but remember that Stephen Jones said he and Jerry Jones suffer and deal with it in their own ways too so let’s all remember that and feel more badly for them more than anything else

— RJ Ochoa (@rjochoa) December 21, 2025

Funny how everyone on the Cowboys defense is having a career-worst year under Matt Eberflus

— Tom Downey (@WhatGoingDowney) December 21, 2025

There has never in the history been a worse defense than this Cowboys defense. There just no way.

— Connor Livesay (@ConnorNFLDraft) December 21, 2025

The good news for the Cowboys:
– They lost (draft position improved)
– Green Bay lost (draft position improved)
– No Mickey Mouse things happened against the Chargers to convince the team they shouldn’t make certain changes

2 games left.

30 YEARS OF THIS

30 YEARS OF PAIN

30 YEARS OF SUFFERING

30 YEARS OF MISERY

WE DESERVE BETTER!

COWBOYS NATION DESERVE BETTER THAN THIS!

WE ARE TIRED OF THIS JERRY!

SO MENTALLY & PHYSICALLY FATIGUE OF SEEING OUR TEAM BE NOT GOOD ENOUGH pic.twitter.com/BwKvPGfaez

Another game the Cowboys would have needed to score 35 to even be competitive

The Defensive Coordinator can NOT return

— Tom Downey (@WhatGoingDowney) December 21, 2025

The Cowboys are about to fall to 6-8-1 so they are guaranteed back to back non-winning seasons. One more loss and they would have consecutive losing seasons for the first time since going 5-11 from 2000-02.

— Todd Archer (@toddarcher) December 21, 2025

Entering today, Chargers QB Justin Herbert was tied for the most-sacked QB in the NFL (49). In the last two games, he had been brought down 11 times.

This is the first game all season that Herbert will walk away without being brought to the ground. The Cowboys have 0 sacks.
