Back running a program, Neal Brown is moving without haste to assemble his inaugural North Texas coaching staff.

As FootballScoop first reported Friday, Brown has nabbed departing Notre Dame assistant Jevaughn Codlin for a defensive coaching spot.

The latest? Sources tell FootballScoop that Brown has his special teams coordinator for his first North Texas staff.

Appalachian State’s Jeff Crosby is expected to accept the job as Mean Green special teams coordinator, sources tell FootballScoop.

Crosby was flying to North Texas on Sunday evening, sources shared with FootballScoop.

After logging four seasons on staff at the University of Texas, helping the Longhorns reach the semifinals of the 2024 College Football Playoff, Crosby exited in the offseason earlier this year to join the initial staff of Dowell Loggains atop Appalachian State.

Crosby’s additional stops earlier in his career include Southern Miss and the University of Washington; despite being a former collegiate quarterback, Crosby has coached special teams in various capacities for the past 10 years.

Brown was hired to replace Eric Morris at North Texas once Morris departed to take over Big 12 Conference program Oklahoma State.

A former head coach at both Troy University and West Virginia, Brown spent the past season as a special assistant/senior analyst for Steve Sarkisian at the University of Texas.Â
