One Fort Worth restaurant was closed from Nov. 30 to Dec. 13 after health inspectors found water issues, and roaches were found at several facilities, according to data from the city compiled by the Star-Telegram.
King Wok at 4544 Golden Triangle Blvd. scored 27 on Dec. 5. The inspector noted a buildup of residue on the drink machine nozzles, uncovered tubs of raw meat in the freezer and roaches on the ceiling and wall near the three-compartment sink.
There was no hot water at any of the sinks, and the city required King Wok to close until the problem with the water could be fixed.
Fort Worth uses a demerit system, with zero being a perfect score. Restaurants that receive more than 30 demerits are required to fix the worst problems immediately and clean up the rest of the violations within 48 hours. No restaurants scored more than 30 during this round of inspections, but several received high demerit scores.
Sunny’s Cafe at 3000 SE Loop 820 scored 26 on Dec. 9. Lettuce and other produce were stored at an unsafe temperature, a certified food manager wasn’t at the restaurant during the inspection and some employees weren’t able to prove they’d completed an accredited food handler course.
Habaneros Fresh Mex Cafe at 5601 Basswood Blvd. scored 25 on Dec. 4. The inspector found a dirty onion chopper, a chemical spray bottle near the dry foods area and no paper towels or soap at one of the hand sinks.
Habaneros received a score of 2 during the Dec. 11 follow-up inspection.
Prima’s Pasta and Pizza at 6108 S. Hulen St. scored 13 on Dec. 2. The inspector noticed one dead roach, personal items on some of the counters and bread stored on the floor.
Sbarro Pizza at 4800 S. Hulen St. scored 11 on Dec. 4. Some macaroni and cheese and lasagna were held at an unsafe temperature and dead roaches were found in the light fixture.
El Merendero Restaurant at 3000 South Fwy. scored 10 on Dec. 5. The inspector found a dying roach near the mop sink and the outside dumpster lid was left open.
Press Cafe at 4801 Edwards Ranch Road scored 6 on Dec. 12. One live roach was found in the facility and there was an accumulation of food debris on the stove.
Eleven establishments, including the Park Vista Children’s Academy daycare at 13033 Park Vista Blvd., received a perfect score of zero.
