It’s a new week, which means it’s time to mine Landman’s latest episode for North Texas Easter eggs. The West Texas-set oil rig drama, co-created by Taylor Sheridan, has shot across Dallas-Fort Worth. The script, accordingly, reflects the milieu.

Here are some of the local ties in episode 6 of season 2.

Singer with Fort Worth tie featured

Episode 5 hinted at an upcoming oil exposition. In episode 6, called “Dark Night of the Soul,” the conference is in full throttle. Some workers watch automated drilling technology with dismay. Country musician Vincent Neil Emerson’s “Hang Your Head Down Low” plays over a montage of the bustling scenes. Emerson has lived in Fort Worth in the past.

‘Diamonds are in Dallas’

Cooper Norris (Jacob Lofland) enlists the help of his mother, Angela (Ali Larter), to pick out an engagement ring for his girlfriend, Ariana (Paulina Chávez). At first, she recommends a trip to Bachendorf’s and Sue Gragg — jewelry businesses in D-FW. But then she offers her own ring for a familial tie.

Now that Angela and Tommy (Billy Bob Thornton) have rekindled their romance, she takes the opportunity to suggest he buy her a new ring. “I’m giving him the one you got me since it’s tainted with the stench of failure,” she says, referring to their divorce. “Baby, you got to get me a new one.”

Angela asks to use a jet for the ring-shopping extravaganza. When Tommy suggests there are suitable options in Midland, she punctuates each word of her reply: “Diamonds are in Dallas.”

A trip to Fort Worth

Tommy travels to Fort Worth to negotiate business with Cami Miller (Demi Moore) and cartel boss Gallino (Andy Garcia). His father, T.L. (Sam Elliott), accompanies him on the drive.

As they enter the Fort Worth Stockyards, T.L. waxes nostalgic about the historic district. “I remember they drove cattle up this road,” he says.

“They still drive cattle up this road, Pop,” Tommy replies. “Only difference is now it’s for the tourists, not for the packers.”

Meanwhile, Cami and Gallino are waiting for Tommy in Fort Worth’s W.R. Watt Arena.

“I’m surprised you haven’t seen this before,” Gallino says, as he and Cami watch a horseman maneuvering around the space.

“Well, you know, there’s two Fort Worths,” she replies, “and I don’t live in this one.”
