LADY CHAP NOTES
» Lubbock Christian University volleyball (16-4, 7-0 LSC) enters Saturday’s play riding a 12-match win streak, its longest since a 12-match tear in 2018. The Lady Chaps have opened Lone Star Conference play 8-0 for their best in their NCAA era and the best since they opened Sooner Athletic Conference play 12-0 in 2009. They improved their road record to 6-1 Friday with a 3-0 win over UT Tyler (in Tyler, Texas) for the program’s first-ever win over the Patriots. LCU has won six straight on the road. LCU is the only remaining unbeaten team in conference play (in the LSC).
» Lubbock Christian continues to pace the Lone Star Conference offensively, leading the league in kills per set (13.88) and assists per set (13.16) — ranking No. 24 and No. 14 nationally, respectively. The Lady Chaps also rank second in the LSC and 15th nationally in digs per set (18.46).
» The Lady Chaps lead the conference in total kills (1027), assists (974), digs (1,366), and total attacks (2,878) — all ranking inside the top 15 nationally. Their .222 hitting percentage stands 5th in the LSC, while their .150 opponent hitting percentage ranks 4th. On Oct. 7, LCU held ENMU to a -.078 attack percentage — the lowest by an opponent since 2016 — marking their first opponent in negative territory since 2018.
» Freshman setter Camdyn Sears continues to orchestrate one of the nation’s most balanced offenses. She leads the LSC and ranks No. 14 nationally in total assists (726) and is 2nd in the LSC (31st nationally) in assists per set (10.08). Sears has produced 12 double-doubles this season, including a career-high 54 assists and 23 digs against Western New Mexico.
» Senior outside hitter Lily Bickley reached a career milestone October 10, surpassing 1,000 career kills — becoming just the third player in LCU’s rally-scoring era (since 2008) to do so and the first since 2015 (Maddie Johnson & Kasey Deterding). She ranks tied for third in the LSC in total kills (212) and 8th in total blocks (57) while hitting .315 (9th LSC, 109th nationally). Her 3.45 points per set rank 16th in the LSC, and she sits 35th among active Division II players in career kills.
» Libero Abby Dominguez anchors the defense with elite consistency, ranking 3rd in the LSC and 45th nationally with 4.93 digs per set, while her 365 total digs stand 2nd in the LSC and 19th nationally. She has tallied seven 20+ dig matches this season.
» Freshman outside hitter Emilee Sikora has emerged as a dynamic offensive presence, producing 11 double-figure kill performances and ranking 14th in the LSC in kills per set (3.03) and 18th in points per set (3.35). She recorded a career-high 18 kills Saturday vs. Oklahoma Christian — matching the team-high for a four-set match this season.
» Middle blocker Bryleigh Schweer continues to impact both ends of the floor, ranking 10th in the LSC in hitting percentage (.308) and 7th in total blocks (59, 0.91/set). She has logged five double-figure kill matches this season and matched the LCU season-high with 7.0 blocks twice (vs. UTPB and Cameron).
» Team defense remains a calling card. LCU has out-dug opponents in 16 of 20 matches and is 16–0 when winning the dig battle this season.
» Nationally, LCU ranks among the top 15 in total assists (2nd), total kills (4th), total digs (11th), and total attacks (13th), while sitting top 25 nationally in both assists per set and kills per set.
LOOKING AT UTD
– The Lady Chaps and UT Dallas have never met. The Comets are the newest Lone Star Conference members after making the move from the NCAA Division II’s American Southwest Conference, where they went 9-9 and 12-13 over the prior two season.
– UT Dallas enters the weekend looking to rebound from a challenging start to its Lone Star Conference campaign, carrying a 3–14 overall record and a 1–6 conference, although they dropped a riveting 3-2 contest Friday hosting Midwestern State. The Comets have struggled to find consistency, dropping five straight matches — four on the road — following their lone LSC victory, a five-set home win over Cameron on Sept. 27. UT Dallas opened the year with a demanding non-conference slate that featured regional powers such as Central Oklahoma and Ferris State, and the early-season grind has left them 0–7 in true road contests. Despite the rocky start, UTD has shown flashes of resilience, pushing several opponents to five sets and earning neutral-site wins over Auburn Montgomery and Mississippi College. The Comets will look to regain momentum on their home floor, where they are 1–2 on the season, as they continue their first full year of Lone Star Conference competition.
– UT Dallas features a balanced offensive attack with multiple consistent contributors. Freshman Jane Burkhardt has been the team’s go-to option, averaging 2.94 kills per set to lead the Comets while also producing 29 total blocks and 219 points on the season (she had 16 kills Friday against MSU). She’s joined by middle hitter Laura See, who provides steady efficiency at the net with a team-best .349 hitting percentage and 44 total blocks, ranking among the LSC’s more reliable middle presences. Together, they form a front-line duo capable of generating both power and defensive presence.
– The Comets’ setting tandem of Abby Gentner and Sydney Sabin has been the engine of their attack, combining for 526 total assists. Gentner averages 4.87 assists per set, while Sabin adds 3.56, helping UTD post a respectable 10.5 assists per set as a team. Their quick tempo and ability to spread the ball have allowed several hitters — including Moriah Johnson (156 kills) and Jada Williams (67 kills) — to find rhythm in key stretches throughout the year.
– On the defensive end, UTD has displayed scrappy resilience, averaging 16.3 digs per set, which ranks among the top half of the LSC. Libero Mari Hernandez anchors the back row with 300 digs (4.69 per set), while Anna Arceneaux has added consistency and poise in serve receive and coverage. At the net, See and Burkhardt have combined for 73 total blocks, helping the Comets stay competitive against some of the conference’s top offensive teams.
