The new year will mark 40 years of a non-profit statewide organization that celebrates the values and contributions of Hispanic heritage.
As 2025 comes to an end, the Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas honored those doing something to impact their communities.
The Arlington and Fort Worth chapters recently gathered for a joint virtual watch party for the HWNT State Estrella Awards ceremony. The yearly event recognizes the stars who have made substantial contributions to their local chapters and communities.
Ruth Barajas Assi co-founded the Arlington chapter. She’s a social worker who supports Latinas and women of color and helps break stigma and open doors for healing.
Renee Perez of Fort Worth was recognized for mentoring and guiding young Latinas through their academic and personal development.
“We were honored to gather as sister chapters to celebrate not only these two incredible women, but all of our State Estrellas shining across Texas,” Amanda Arizola told NBC 5 in an email. “Moments like these remind us of the power of connection, celebration, and lifting one another as we lead.”
