A 30-year-old woman has been identified as the victim in a homicide that led to a fatal police shooting of the suspect near Town East Mall on Saturday.

Officers responded to reports of a shooting in the 9000 block of Markville Drive at 10:15 a.m. Saturday, where they found a woman, Nadia Swanson, with a gunshot wound.

The shooter had fled the scene.

Swanson was transported to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital, where she died around 11:11 a.m., according to the Dallas County medical examiner.

Around 11:45 a.m., Dallas and Mesquite officers located a suspect, 32-year-old Gerald Frank Martin, in a vehicle near the 18500 block of North LBJ Freeway and conducted a felony traffic stop.

Martin exited the vehicle while armed, and shots were fired, according to a previous statement from Mesquite police. He died at the scene from his injuries, according to police statements.

No officers were hurt during the incident. No further information about the incident was immediately available.
