Texas A&M Forest Service offers safety tips to avoid a holiday catastrophe

  • December 24, 2025

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) – The Texas A&M Forest Service says “unseasonably warm weather” this holiday season and freeze cured grasses — grass that’s entered it’s dormant state for the winter and is not growing — have increased the risk of a wildfire.

Laura Stevens, a spokesperson for Texas A&M Forest Service, says factors that add to the risk in East Texas include burning trash from gifts or Christmas trees and vehicle usage due the uptick in travel.

Tires should be inflated properly, and safety chains on trailers should be put up. Stevens said the rims and chains scraping the ground could cause a spark.

She gives safety tips and ways to avoid ruining your celebrations.
