Lubbock offers Christmas tree recycling through January 13

  • December 26, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) -The City of Lubbock is encouraging residents to recycle their live Christmas trees rather than throwing them away as the holiday season winds down.

Four collection sites will accept trees through January 13, diverting them from landfills and giving them new purpose as mulch.

Danny Cooks, a recycling foreman with the city, said the initiative benefits both the environment and the community.

“Helps keep reusable materials out of the landfill and supports sustainability and community,” Cooks said.

The collected trees are processed into coarse mulch that residents can obtain at no cost. The city’s recycling center at 84th St. and Ave. P distributes the finished product back to the community.

Trees must be properly prepared before drop-off. All decorations, lights, ornaments and metal items should be removed. Trees should not be in bags and must be free of artificial snow or flocking.

The post-holiday period also generates significant amounts of other recyclable materials. Cardboard boxes, wrapping paper, aluminum, plastic and paper products can all be recycled through the city’s regular programs.

Collection sites are located at 82nd St. and Ave. P, Clovis Highway north of Quaker Ave., the west side of Milwaukee Ave., and west of where Buddy Holly Ave. becomes Municipal Dr.
