Now that the presents are opened and dry needles are starting to fall, you may be wondering what to do with your Christmas tree.
The city of San Antonio will open four free tree recycling sites from Jan. 3 through Jan. 14. The trees will be converted into mulch, which residents can pick up for free from the Bitters Brush Recycling Center starting in mid-January.
The following sites are open Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon and Tuesday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with the exception of the Bitters Brush Recycling Center, which is open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.:
Culebra Bulky Waste Collection Center, 7030 Culebra Road
Frio City Road Bulky Waste Collection Center, 1531 Frio City Road
Rigsby Road Bulky Waste Collection Center, 2755 Rigsby Road
Bitters Bulky Waste Collection Center, 1800 Wurzbach Parkway
Make sure to remove all ornaments, decorations, lights and tree stands before taking your unbagged, live tree to a recycling site. If your tree is over 6 feet tall, cut it in half before dropping it off.
Another option is to put your smaller live tree in your green organic cart during normal weekly collection.
During the week of New Year’s, Thursday waste collection (garbage, recycling and organics) will move to Friday, Jan. 2, and Friday collection will move to Saturday, Jan. 3.
