EL PASO, Texas – Louisiana Tech put together another strong fight on the road Saturday afternoon, taking a set off Conference USA’s top team before falling 3-1 (25-19, 25-21, 27-29, 25-13) to UTEP inside Memorial Gym.
 
After dropping the opening two frames, LA Tech (7-15, 0-8 CUSA) responded with its best stretch of the match in the third.  The Bulldogs eventually erasing a 24-22 deficit and winning 29-27 to force a fourth set.  Carla Esquer and Anaya Hairston combined for multiple late kills during the comeback, while the front line posted five blocks in the set alone.
 
UTEP (18-2, 8-0 CUSA) regrouped in the fourth, using a .429 hitting percentage and 85 percent sideout rate to close out the match.  LA Tech totaled 10 team blocks and 55 digs, holding the Miners to their fourth-lowest attack efficiency of the season.
 
Esquer led the Bulldogs with nine kills while Charlize Williams tallied eight kills and a .350 hitting percentage plus five blocks.  Sydnee Carter dished out 10 assists and added 10 digs for a double-double.  Riley Steubing anchored the back row with 17 digs.
