1. City of Austin awarded $34.7 million for impacts of COVID, winter storms, floods
The City of Austin, with the assistance of Austin Emergency Management (AEM), announced they recovered $34.7 million as reimbursement for disasters.
According to a press release from AEM, 91% of the reimbursement rate can be attributed to COVID-19, with the other money coming from winter storms Uri and Mara and the 2015 floods. Sara Henry, the AEM Chief Administrative Officer, said she’s glad the money was given to Austin.
2. New Mexico Bowl pits No. 23 North Texas against San Diego State
The game will match the country’s top team in scoring (44.8 points per game) and total offense (504 yards per game) in North Texas (11-2) against stingy San Diego State (9-3), which was fifth in defensive scoring at 12.6 points a game.
3. CapMetro fareboxes will get rid of paper and one-day passes
Fareboxes on CapMetro buses will soon receive a slight makeover. The boxes will no longer print paper passes or sell one-day passes beginning in mid-2026. Those who want a day pass will instead have to use the Umo app, CapMetro Reloadable Fare Card or tap-to-pay credit or debit card. Fareboxes will still accept cash for single bus rides.

Austin-based comics writer talks current projects, local, cultural influences
Evan Narcisse, an Austin-based, New York-raised comic book writer and former journalist, is bringing his cultural background and love for superheroes to his current work.
Narcisse has been in Austin since 2016 and has been writing comic books since 2018. He has previously worked for Marvel Comics, writing for characters such as Black Panther and Captain America, and now writes for DC Comics, where he is writing a crossover miniseries between Batman Beyond and Static.
