FAA investigating after 2 departing flights at Bush Airport nearly collide

  • December 30, 2025

HOUSTON – The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating a near collision involving two departing flights at Houston’s Bush Intercontinental Airport earlier this month.

According to the FAA, the incident happened around 3:05 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 18, and involved Volaris El Salvador Flight 4321, which was headed to San Salvador, and United Express Flight 4814, which was flying to Jackson, Mississippi.

In a statement, the FAA said air traffic control instructed Volaris Flight 4321 to turn left after departing Bush Intercontinental. The aircraft instead turned right, placing it on a path toward the United Express flight, which had departed from a parallel runway.

“This information is preliminary and subject to change,” the FAA said. “The FAA is investigating the event.”

The planes did not collide.

United Express Flight 4814 was operated by CommuteAir. In a statement, CommuteAir said its crew followed all applicable air traffic control instructions.
