McKinney Police are investigating a double homicide and a shooting involving officers.
According to McKinney Police, officers were called to a home in the 5300 block of Dunster Drive on Saturday night for a welfare check requested by relatives of the couple who live there.
The relatives said they hadn’t heard from the couple in several days. Police say they responded but left after no one answered the door or phone.
On Sunday, just before 10 a.m., police said family members requested a welfare check again. This time, officers entered the home through the back door.
Officers said they immediately located two homicide victims in the living room. The victims were later identified as 73-year-old Leonard Frank Ragan and his wife, 72-year-old Jackie Ragan.
The couple’s son, 34-year-old Bryce Ragan, was found inside a bedroom armed with a firearm, according to police. McKinney Police said two officers discharged their weapons, striking Ragan multiple times. He was transported by EMS to the hospital, where he is reported to be in stable condition.
No officers were injured.
McKinney City Manager Paul Grimes told NBC 5 that Frank Ragan previously served as the city’s manager.
“We have learned that former City Manager Frank Ragan and his wife were tragically found deceased in their home. Mr. Ragan served the McKinney community from March 2008 to June 2010. Our condolences and prayers are with the family. We are unable to comment further while this is an active investigation.”
Neighbors said the couple has lived in the home for more than a decade.
“Very shocking. It’s always something you never expect in your own neighborhood. You always hear about this on the news,” said neighbor Nate Barrett.
Texas Rangers are investigating the officer-involved shootings.
McKinney Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public. Anyone with information can contact the McKinney Crime Tip Line at 972-547-3480 or email crimetipline@mckinneytexas.org.
