LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam targeting families of inmates.
Deputies said suspects are using public information on inmates to contact family members, claiming inmates need a class or certification to get out of jail earlier, reduce a sentence or keep their current housing assignment.
The sheriff’s office said they don’t charge inmates for programs. The programs are free and offered by community volunteers through grants.
Officials warned residents not to give out any bank or credit card information to these scammers.
