LUBBOCK, Texas (October 18, 2025) — Lubbock Christian secured a 2-0 victory over Oklahoma Christian on Saturday at the LCU Soccer & Track Complex.
The Chaparrals capitalized on a strong first half, with both goals scored early, and maintained a solid defensive stance throughout the match. The home team goalkeeper recorded six saves, all in the second half, preserving the shutout and sealing the win.
Lubbock Christian improves to 4-6-3 overall and 3-1-2 in conference play following the victory. Okla. Christian falls to 4-6-1 overall and 2-4-0 in conference play.
The match commenced with LCU applying pressure early on, highlighted by Manu Nunez’s shot barely missing the target in the opening minutes. The persistence paid off in the 26th minute when Nunez capitalized on an assist from Andrea Monticelli to put LCU ahead 1-0.
LCU’s offense maintained momentum, culminating in a second goal by Francisco Horta in the 42nd minute. Despite Oklahoma Christian’s attempts to respond, the Chaps ended the first half with a 2-0 lead and a 12-3 lead in shots.
Offensive control of the game completely flipped in the final 45 minutes, as OC out-shot LCU 13-2 in the second half. Ethan Nakolo of Oklahoma Christian tested Pettigrew early with a shot at the 45:33 mark, which was saved, and again at 52:02, but Pettigrew remained resolute.
Despite Oklahoma Christian’s persistent attacks, including several shots and corner kicks, the Chaparrals’ defense held firm. Geoffroy Letienne and Nunez each had scoring opportunities, with Nunez’s shot saved by Carter Higgins at 74:09. The half concluded with LCU preserving their 2-0 lead as the final whistle blew.
Connor Pettigrew recorded six saves, achieving a shutout over the course of 90 minutes. Francisco Horta found the back of the net once, contributing two shots on goal. Nunez also scored, leading the team with five shots and three on target, including the game-winning goal. Monticelli provided an assist, adding two shots to his performance.
GAME NOTES:
– With their third LSC win of the season, LCU has now matched its 2024 league win total, still with four left to play.
– The Chaparrals now have 11 points in the league standings, meaning they would be the No. 2 seed in the LSC postseason tournament if the season ended today.
– LCU notched its fifth shutout of the season, matching their total from the 2024 season.
– Nunez’s game-winning goal was also his first score of the season, making him the eighth different Chap to find the back of the net this year.
– When Horta scored the second goal of the day, he became tied for the team lead in goals with three.
