El Paso’s art scene is about to get a little uncomfortable, in the best possible way.
The IMPOSTERS Art Show is a creative experiment created by local artist JD Viz with one simple but bold goal: push artists out of their comfort zones. Each participating artist is randomly assigned another local artist and must attempt to mimic that person’s style, even if they work in a completely different medium.
That means a painter might interpret the work of a poet, or a photographer could try to capture the essence of a sculptor. The challenge is not about copying. It is about studying another artist’s voice and translating it through your own creative language.
How The IMPOSTERS Art Show Has Grown
When the show first launched, only 19 artists accepted the challenge. It was a new idea, and stepping into someone else’s creative world takes real courage. The results were powerful enough that word spread quickly.
By Volume 2, the show grew to 30 artists from different disciplines, including visual artists, writers, and performers. The range of work expanded, and so did the audience. Now, Volume 3 features over 50 local artists, making it one of the largest collaborative art experiments El Paso has seen in years.
Why Volume 3 Is a Big Deal
The selection party for Volume 3 has already taken place, meaning artists have exchanged names and are actively working outside their usual creative lanes. That process is where the magic happens.
The reveal is always the highlight of The IMPOSTERS Art Show. Seeing the original artist alongside the piece inspired by them creates moments of surprise, reflection, and connection. It is a powerful reminder of how much artists can grow when they allow themselves to take creative risks.
When and Where To Experience The Show
The IMPOSTERS Art Show Volume 3 Selection occurred at Studio 1929, a space founded by award-winning, New York Times bestselling author Benjamin Alire Sáenz. The venue has become a cornerstone for meaningful artistic work in El Paso and was a fitting vibe for the community spirit and unique passion of the selection party!
THE ACTUAL IMPOSTERS SHOW will occur at a classic community spot and the place that hosted the gallery for Vol. 2 as well, Old Sheepdog Brewery in Central El Paso!
Many of the works on display will be available for purchase, giving art lovers a chance to support local artists and take home truly one-of-a-kind pieces.
Why This Show Matters For El Paso
At its core, The IMPOSTERS Art Show is about community. It proves what can happen when artists come together, try something new, and support one another through the discomfort of growth.
With over 50 artists participating, Volume 3 stands as a celebration of collaboration, creativity, and the unique kind of art that can only happen in El Paso when people are willing to take a leap.
