Dallas Area Rapid Transit will temporarily close its Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center Station for three years starting Jan. 5, according to a news release from the agency.
The city of Dallas is planning the construction and redevelopment of the convention center and as part of the project, DART is required to close the station for the duration of the construction, the release said. The construction project is estimated to be completed in 2029.

Train riders who use the station will be directed to nearby stations such as Cedars or EBJ Union, the release said. The agency will use easy-to-read signs, rider alerts and bus connections to help customers navigate the closure.
Bus detours
For bus riders outside downtown Dallas, routes 28 and 106 will continue their regular service. Within downtown, buses will turn left on Young Street, right on Akard Street, right on Marilla Street at the Akard and Marilla bus stop, the release said. Outbound buses on the routes turn left on Young Street, right on Lamar Street and then keep going on their regular route.
There will be a layover at the Akard and Marilla stop, and passengers can deboard at Cedars Station and take the special South Dallas GoLink to bus stops at Akard and Marilla or to EBJ Union Station.
For route 224, inbound trips will come downtown along Elm Street and continue to Houston Street. Buses will then turn left onto Commerce Street and continue to Harwood before turning left to go to the East Transfer Center for a layover, the release said. The outbound trips will start at the East Transfer Center and continue on their regular routes out of downtown.
Passengers arriving by train can deboard at Convention Center Station to board buses on route 224. Passengers can also get off at Akard Station and board the bus on route 224 at Elm and Akard.
For route 383, East Transfer Center will be the final stop. The route will be discontinued on Feb. 2, the release said.
The agency said it will implement a new GoLink zone for Convention Center Station customers that will provide service for trips starting and ending at EBJ Union Station, Cedars Station or the substitute bus layover location on Akard and Marilla.
This service will be operational throughout the week from 5 a.m. to midnight, the release said.
