EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — The Sun Bowl in El Paso has long been more than just a football game; it’s a cherished tradition that unites locals and visitors alike.

Many El Pasoans view the event as a yearly gathering that celebrates the community.

“The last ten years we’ve done this and this is like our spot right here. We’ve done this for ten years. Get together, celebrate El Paso, bring in the new Year,” said one attendee.

The sense of community was palpable, even to first-time visitors.

“It’s just the culture in El Paso. The tailgating, the community. That’s why we’re here,” another local shared.

Visitors echoed these sentiments, with some fans noting, “We were greeted by wonderful people. Everyone’s been so nice. You know, it’s been beautiful here.”

Another fan added, “Everybody is so kind.”

The unique setting of the Sun Bowl Stadium also left a lasting impression.

“I like the desert terrain, the mountains,” said a Duke fan. “It’s a lot different than where we’re from. We’re from somewhere a lot greener and stuff. But the mountains are really cool. Like you’re just surrounded by mountains and also being right next to, Mexico. I’ve never been this close.”

Inside the stadium, the atmosphere was electric as fans shared their love for the event.

“I like it a lot,” one fan said. “I started last year. So I’m going to be coming to every game from now on.”

Another fan remarked on the diverse crowd, “The people that come from around the United States, right? They’re great people. And we always have a great time.”

The Sun Bowl continues to be a great place to watch football and experience the vibrant community spirit of El Paso.
