EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 22-year-old was arrested on Christmas Eve after El Paso police found he had unlawful guns and drugs on him.

According to the El Paso Police Department, Patrick Cyrus Avila was arrested Dec. 24, after he was pulled over near Zaragoza Road and Vista del Sol Drive, near the Marty Robbins Park in East El Paso.

The officers who pulled Avila over claim they could smell marijuana coming out of the 2012 black BMW.

As a result, officers searched the car and allegedly found marijuana and a two-tone gray and black 9mm CZ handgun.

Jail records show Avila was booked into the El Paso County Downtown jail and charged with possession of a controlled substance, marijuana possession, and unlawful carrying of a weapon under a $1,100

According to jail records, Avila was released on Christmas Day.
