Nueces County officials expect heavy crowds as the Jan. 31 property tax deadline approaches. Residents are urged to plan ahead and consider paying online.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — With the January property tax deadline approaching, Nueces County officials are warning residents to plan ahead as heavy crowds and long lines are expected at the county courthouse.

County offices were closed Wednesday for the New Year’s holiday but will reopen Thursday as business returns to normal. Officials say foot traffic is expected to increase steadily throughout the month as the Jan. 31 deadline nears.
Nueces County Tax Assessor-Collector Kevin Kieschnick said residents have multiple ways to pay their property taxes, including online, by mail or in person. He said paying online can help residents avoid long waits and concerns about mail delays.
“So, if you just want to do it from the comfort of your own home and not have to worry about, ‘Did it get here? Did it get lost in the mail?’ — you can do it online and get it done quickly and efficiently that way,” Kieschnick said.
County officials say courthouse traffic may be heavier than usual this month due to both the property tax deadline and upcoming court activity related to the Uvalde trial.
Officials are urging residents who plan to pay in person to allow extra time for their visits, particularly as the end of the month approaches.
Property taxes in Nueces County must be paid by Jan. 31 to avoid penalties and interest.
To pay online, go to the Nueces County website.
