Harris County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the death of a 43-year-old man who was found unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound early New Year’s Day at an apartment complex in east Harris County.
Deputies were called just after 6:30 a.m. to the 12600 block of Woodforest Blvd., after the man’s live-in girlfriend discovered him lying on the front porch of their apartment.
According to Sgt. Greg Pinkins with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the victim had returned home sometime after leaving the apartment around 1:30 a.m. His girlfriend said she did not hear any disturbance overnight and found him unresponsive shortly before 6 a.m.
EMS pronounced the man dead at the scene.
Investigators initially indicated the victim may have suffered both gunshot and stab wounds, but Sgt. Pinkins said it is too early to confirm whether any stab wounds were related to an assault or the result of lifesaving efforts by emergency responders. The Harris County medical examiner will determine the official cause of death.
Two 19-year-olds were inside the apartment at the time the victim was discovered. Authorities say no juveniles were present, and there are currently no suspects.
Homicide detectives and crime scene investigators are canvassing the area, knocking on doors and searching for surveillance video that could help determine what happened.
At this point, investigators do not know if the case is a robbery or if the man was targeted.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit or submit tips anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
