12 Texas A&M football players enter transfer portal on first day of portal window

  • January 3, 2026

Updated as of 4 p.m. Friday

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – Ten Texas A&M players have entered their names into the transfer portal on the first day of football’s portal window, according to a source with access to the online database.

The initial four, who posted their name Friday morning, are three with notable playing time for the Aggies and one walk-on, including cornerback Jayvon Thomas, wide receiver Izaiah Williams and defensive end Rylan Kennedy. Joining the group is walk-on designated athlete JR Rosenberg, a junior cornerback.

Friday afternoon saw the additions of quarterback Miles O’Neill, tight end Theo Melin Öhrström, defensive end Solomon Williams, safety Jordan Pride, kicker Liam Padron, and designated student athlete safety Benjamin Bruce.

Later Friday, linebacker Tristan Jernigan and cornerback Cobey Sellers put their name in the portal.

Thomas saw action in 13 games this season but recorded only one tackle. After seeing action in 330 snaps last season, he only played 66 this year on defense, according to Pro Football Focus. Thomas tallied 17 tackles and an interception last year.

Williams saw his role increase with the Aggies as the season progressed this year, including his first career touchdown in A&M’s win over South Carolina. He played 99 snaps this season, an increase from 24 during his true freshman season. In 2025, Williams caught seven passes for 64 yards and the score.

Kennedy is another whose playing time decreased this season. In 2024, Kennedy notched 20 tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack, while playing 239 snaps. This season, he participated in 176 snaps in which he registered 14 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss and two sacks.

O’Neill served as quarterback Marcel Reed’s backup in 2025, playing in seven games. He completed 7 of 14 passes for 120 yards and a passing touchdown, to go along with two interceptions. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound passer was a 3-star recruit out of Marblehead, Ma. in the class of 2024, according to 247Sports.com .

Hailing from Sweden, Öhrström has been one of the Aggies’ more unique stories of the last four years. The 6-foot-6, 257-pound international transfer has grown into his role, catching 19 passes for 168 yards and a touchdown in 2025. He played 122 snaps in 2023, growing to 475 this season.

Jernigan played 45 snaps during his freshman season in 2024, but saw that reduced to 10 this season. He was a 4-star prospect out of Tupelo, Miss in the class of 2024.

Williams played 35 snaps this season for the Aggies, 10 more than he played during his freshman season. He recorded seven tackles, including three tackles for loss, this year. Pride tallied one tackle in five snaps.

Sellers played 14 snaps during his true freshman season at A&M. He was a 5-star recruit out of Shadow Creek High school in Pearland, according to 247Sports.com.

Rosenberg is a junior cornerback from Sarasota, Fla., Bruce is a sophomore quarterback from Lubbock and Padron is a sophomore kicker from St. Augustine, Fla.

The portal window is open for 15 days from Jan. 2 to Jan. 15. This is the first year with only one football transfer window, after the NCAA eliminated the spring window in 2025. Players on programs participating in the national championship game will have until Jan. 19 to enter their name into the portal, and players on programs who have a head coach leave will have a 15-day window that begins five days after a new head coach is hired.
