LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – On Monday, Lubbock Fire Rescue hosted a news conference at 2p.m., regarding Safe Haven Baby Boxes.
According to Lubbock Fire Chief Richard Stewart, a mother surrendered her baby at Fire Station 9’s baby box within the past 10 days. According to LFR, this is the first-ever Safe Haven Baby Box surrender in Texas.
LFR says the surrender occurred in accordance with Texas Safe Haven laws, which allows a parent in crisis to safely and anonymously surrender an unharmed infant.
Upon placement in the Baby Box, Lubbock Fire Rescue personnel were immediately alerted and responded within seconds to provide care and ensure the infant was transported for medical evaluation by UMC EMS personnel.
The baby was safe and healthy, LFR said.
The news conference took place at Citizens Tower.

Right now, there are several Safe Haven Baby Boxes across the South Plains.
One is located at Lubbock Fire Station 9.
One location is at Covenant Children’s in Lubbock.
The other two locations are at the Covenant Health Facilities in Levelland and Plainview.
Another location is in Wolfforth at the Wolfforth Fire Station.
