ARLINGTON, Texas — The Arlington Police Department has inaugurated a new storefront, known as a “cop shop,” in the southeast area of the city. This initiative aims to enhance police visibility and provide officers with a convenient workspace.

The Arlington City Council approved funding for the satellite office, located at 6516 New York Avenue, during the Fiscal Year 2025 budget cycle. This marks the fourth cop shop in the South District, which spans from west of U.S. 287 to State Highway 360. Other locations include the Parks Mall, Arlington Highlands, and near U.S. 287 and Sublett Road. The cop shops are designed to increase police presence and offer officers a place to work without returning to the South District station, according to a press release from the Arlington Police Department.

“The cop shops really give our officers greater flexibility to spend more time in these areas, which is what we want,” said Chief of Police Al Jones. “They also show our residents and stakeholders in those areas that their police department is invested in them.” Although accessible to patrol officers 24/7, the new cop shop will not be staffed for public business. Residents seeking in-person assistance should visit the Ott Cribbs Public Safety Center or one of the department’s three substation locations.
