Lubbock woman sentenced to 15 years for fatal hit-and-run

  • January 6, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock woman will serve 15 years in prison after pleading guilty this afternoon to a hit-and-run that killed a 20-year-old.

Christina Hernandez is charged with intoxication manslaughter. According to police, she failed to stop and render aid after she hit Jacoby Springfield in 2021.

The Lubbock Police Department reports Springfield was legally crossing at the crosswalk at 82nd St. and Ave. U when he was struck. He died at the hospital.

Police said 50-year-old Christina Hernandez did not stop at the red light when she hit Springfield. Then she fled the scene.

Jacoby’s parents said he had so much life to live and it is still hard to wrap their head around the fact that he is gone. They said their memory of him is tainted by grief and it will never be the same without their son.
