LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The HEARD Coalition will host a community empowerment event for students in grades 6-12 on Martin Luther King Jr. Day at the YWCA of Lubbock.
The event will take place Monday, Jan. 19, 2026, at the YWCA located at 6501 University.
Activities will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., with lunch provided for all participants.
The program will feature discussions, interactive activities and a community pledge centered around leadership, unity and positive change. Attendees will have the chance to win raffle prizes, connect with fellow youth and develop leadership skills.
The initiative seeks to uplift and empower youth from Lubbock and the surrounding region, according to organizers.
The HEARD Coalition is managed by Lubbock Public Health through a grant from Texas Health and Human Services.
HEARD is a group of community members from across sectors to identify local gaps in adolescent mental health and substance use services, support youth as they navigate challenges and strengthen protective factors in the community.
