EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The Ysleta del Sur Pueblo has announced the results of its 2026 tribal elections.
The elections, held on Dec. 31, 2025, saw the appointment of new tribal officials who assumed office on Tuesday.
The Pueblo paid tribute to the late Cacique Jose G. Sierra, Sr., who passed away in 2025, acknowledging his lifelong leadership and dedication to the community.
Cacique Johnny (Juan R.) Hisa has been elected as the new Cacique, assuming the highest traditional and cultural leadership role within the Tribe.
Hisa was born on Nov. 17, 1946. Cacique Hisa has dedicated his life to the cultural and ceremonial life of the Pueblo.
His extensive service includes roles as Tribal Dancer, Mayordomo, Capitan, Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Alguacil.
Cacique Hisa prioritizes safeguarding ceremonial practices and mentoring traditional leaders, tribe officials said.
Tribal Governor E. Michael Silvas praised Cacique Hisa’s leadership, stating, “Cacique Hisa’s leadership is defined by service, humility, and cultural preservation. At a time when many traditions have faded, his role is centered on continuity—teaching, guiding and protecting what has sustained the Pueblo for generations.”
