CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A large multi-agency search is underway tonight after two male detainees escaped custody during a third-party transport to the Coastal Bend Detention Center.

Nueces County Sheriff Joseph “Guy” Baker said the detainees were being transported from Falfurrias to the Robstown facility when they escaped into the brush near FM 1930 and FM 1352, just outside Alice.

Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson Rob Mallory confirmed DPS is assisting in the search, along with the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Office, Alice Police Department and K-9 units.

Authorities have not released descriptions of the suspects or details on how they escaped from the transport vehicle.

Law enforcement is urging residents in the area to remain alert and call 911 if they see anything suspicious.
