Traffic frustrations on Interstate 10 near downtown Houston could ease this year, but there are always new projects for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDot), and Harris County’s west side will see a few.

A portion of the work on I-10 the Katy Freeway near Downtown should be wrapping up later in the year, though the whole project is expected to continue into 2028.

Elevating the freeway main lanes so that they don’t flood so often is the goal, and it’s possible some of the work most disruptive to traffic could ease in the second half of the year, the department says.

NewsRadio 740 KTRH’s traffic anchor SkyMike says such roadwork easing “is overdue, every day that squishes up.”

In far west Harris County, work to add lanes to 99 The Grand Parkway is expected to start this year, and while it may be disruptive to commuters, SkyMike says it, too, is needed.

“I get more complaints about that roadway, even when there are no incidents.”

More Grand Parkway road work is expected a little further to the south.

Feeder roads on 99 in Fort Bend County will be getting some work starting later this year, allowing more access to the main lanes for those in the area, but main lanes are expected to remain open during construction.

And along 290 in unincorporated Harris County, a project to allow more access to State Highway 290 is also expected to begin this year, building Greenhouse Rd. through to the freeway from the south side so that it can connect with Skinner Rd. on the north side of 290.
