CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A judge sentenced Enrique Lopez to 35 years in prison on Thursday in the death of 3-year-old Augustine “Augie” Valencia.
Prosecutors said Lopez fatally injured ‘Augie’ at the Veranda Apartments in Corpus Christi in February 2025 while he was dating the child’s mother. Evidence presented at trial showed the child suffered severe injuries while alone with Lopez.
Corpus Christi police were called to the apartment complex after Lopez reported the child was not breathing. Medics treated the toddler at the scene and rushed the child to a hospital, where the child later died.
Investigators discovered injuries consistent with abuse and arrested Lopez on an outstanding warrant. This is a breaking news story. We will update it as we gather more information.
