Mark Meurer asks Texas Supreme Court to block Jason Corley from serving on Commisioners Court

  • January 8, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The Texas Supreme Court will decide whether to weigh in on who should represent southeast Lubbock County on the Commissioners Court.

Mark Meurer is asking the state’s highest civil court to block Jason Corley from serving on the court after a district court in Lubbock supported Corley’s claim to the seat.

Lubbock County Judge Curtis Parrish removed Corley from office last month. Parrish said Corley automatically resigned his seat in mid-November when he announced an “exploratory committee” to run for Congress.

Corley said he didn’t become a “candidate in fact” until early December, when the state’s Resign to Run law no longer required him to step down from Precinct 2.

Judge Patrick Pirtle sided with Corley late last month, allowing Corley to return to the court.

Meurer wants the Supreme Court to issue an order blocking Corley from serving during Monday’s commissioners meeting. His attorneys have asked the court to decide whether it will take up the dispute by close of business Friday.
