EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — El Paso police identified the person who died in the first deadly crash of 2026.

The El Paso Police Department responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Gateway North and Sean Hagerty early on Jan. 1.

The collision involved a 2023 Chevrolet Silverado pickup and a 2013 Chevrolet Camaro.

The crash resulted in the death of 18-year-old Angelique Diaz De Leon, a resident of Northeast El Paso, Texas, who was a passenger in the Camaro.

According to the preliminary investigation by the Special Traffic Investigations unit, the Camaro was traveling east on Sean Hagerty when it was T-boned by the pickup truck in the intersection.

Ramirez sustained minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital.

Authorities have identified a red-light violation by the pickup truck as a contributing factor in the collision, and they are investigating the possibility that alcohol may have played a role. The investigation is ongoing.
